Owners of some 2022 model Sony Bravia TVs and a few 2020 and 2021 ones now have the ability to get a free firmware upgrade bringing many of the energy savings features of the company’s current models.
As first reported by FlatpanelsHD.com, Sony recently posted a firmware update (v6.7240) notification in the support section of its U.S. and European web sites. The update brings some or all of the energy monitoring and adjustment features in the 2023 on-screen Eco Dashboard as well as some additional gaming features, supported Alexa Voice Control modifications and general performance improvements to certain models equipped with a specific MediaTek hardware processor.
The presence of the supporting processor is required to make use of the update. So, unfortunately, this means that not all of Sony’s TV models from the periods covered can take advantage of the update.
The Eco Dashboard feature was first introduced in many 2023 Sony Bravia TV models to provide users with a way to monitor the energy use and efficiency of the set at any given time while making it easier to find and tweak the settings for an optimal level of energy savings vs. performance, all in one place.

Furthermore, Sony TVs that are able to use the company’s optional Bravia Cam that attaches to the top of certain models will be able to continuously monitor the level of activity in the room to automatically dim the brightness output of the screen when no one’s around to watch.
In addition to energy-focused improvements, the firmware update will enable select 2022 Sony TV models to access some of the features available in Sony’s new Game Menu this year. This includes Motion Blur Reduction and the addition of a virtual on-screen crosshair pattern that gamers can call up with their remote when playing supported shooter titles.
Sony TV models eligible for some or all of these new firmware features include the following:
Eligible 2022 Models: X80K, X81K, X82K, X85K, X89K, X90K/S, X92K, X93K, X94K/S, X95K, A75K, A80K, A83K, A84K, A90K

Additional model support information is available here.
If a particular television model number isn’t listed it may be because the set needs to have a specific hardware processing chip installed, and this wasn’t universally included in all models in the past three years.
Sony said the firmware upgrade will auto install in supported models if the user has pre-set the television to automatically download and install firmware updates.
Otherwise, it can be installed manually by following the instructions on this link.
