Roku announced the introduction of the first Roku TV designed for outdoor use.

The 55-inch outdoor Element Roku TV will soon be coming to Walmart.com at a $1,299.99 retail price.

Roku said the 4K UHD LED-LCD TV set is ideal for movie nights and game-day viewing parties outdoors under the stars or under the sun. The set is said to have been designed for year-round use, and will withstand water, dust and humidity levels.

“When designing the Element Patio Series TVs, we wanted to find a way to help people enjoy their outdoor spaces more,” said Vlad Kazhdan, Element Electronics president. “Whether our customers wanted movie nights under the stars or game days in the sun, we wanted to make sure the Patio Series TVs delivered the same high-quality viewing experience they’re used to, at a price lower than other outdoor televisions.”

The new Element Roku TV is said to have a peak brightness level of up to 700 Nits, which would be bright enough for some partial sun conditions or in shade. The screen is made from tempered anti-glare glass materiel for extra protection and minimal reflection, the company said.

The TV supports 4K Ultra HD resolution and will present high dynamic range (HDR) highlights from content graded for the HDR 10 static metadata profile.

The television has built-in speakers that are powerful enough to compete with the sounds of a patio party or a neighbor’s lawn mower.

The set is IP55 weather protection rated to withstand water, dust, and humidity. The TV can operate under extreme temperature conditions ranging from a low of -4˚F to a high of 104˚F, the company said.

The television’s built in Roku TV OS will connect with an available home Wi-Fi network to stream a huge list of apps, movies and TV programs from partners supported in the Roku App Store.

The Roku TV OS is one of the most popular of its kind in the United States and other parts of the world, thanks to its simple, intuitive setup and use, enhanced with a customizable home screen and a mobile remote that allows for private listening, search capabilities with your voice or keyboard, and the ability to save shows for later.
