Roku TVs and streaming adapters are now compatible with the ad-supported Disney+ Basic app tier, the company announced this week.
Disney+ Basic is the lower-cost ad-supported streaming tier that launched in December, but it’s taken a little time for certain smart TVs and streaming device resources to catch up. Roku, which is one of the largest video streaming platforms in the United States, said in a blog post it s now on board with the studio giant’s value offering.
Those with Roku devices can sign up for Disney+ Basic at the $7.99 a month rate, to get the service’s expanding library of movies and exclusive content with no more than four minutes of ads per minute (none in pre-school content). The ad-free Disney+ Premium tier that has been available runs $10.99 a month, or $109.99 per year.

Disney+ Basic supports the service’s full catalog of content in up to 4K UHD video resolution with HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR and Expanded Aspect Ratio with IMAX Enhanced (where applicable). Users can stream on up to four devices simultaneously per household.
The Basic plan, however, does not support certain features such as offline downloads, GroupWatch, SharePlay and Dolby Atmos.
Roku users will need to download (or update the legacy) Disney+ app in order to begin using the Basic plan.
