The multi-industry Digital Entertainment Group’s (DEG) Direct to Consumer (D2C) Alliance Steering Committee announced Thursday a list of new industry terminology chosen to help standardize communication about the different digital streaming models and services now exploding in the market.

The group said the terms are also being advocated “to align the messaging regarding their features and benefits.”

The terms span linear, transactional and subscription audio/video entertainment business platforms.

The mission of the DEG D2C Alliance is to identify “the issues pertaining to both Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) and Advertising-supported Video on Demand based (AVOD) business models. The body said this includes definitions and standards; uniform messaging; activation and adoption; research and data analytics; consumer consumption patterns; improved quality of service; and generating greater overall awareness about the direct-to-consumer experience.

The DTC Targeted Services committee is comprised of key representatives from specialized content companies including: A+E Networks, AMC Networks, BBC Studios, FilmRise, National Geographic, The Great Courses, PBS Distribution and ScreenHits TV.
