The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced plans to push forward a physical CES 2022 Jan. 5-8th with multiple opportunities for physical attendees and exhibitors and limitations for those who choose to attend virtually.

This is a significant departure from virtual-only CES 2021 presented by the world’s leading technology trade association during last year’s mandated lockdowns.

In keeping with physical show return, the Association staged its traditional physical CES 2022 Unveiled New York media event Wednesday night. For those not in attendance, a separate virtual CES 2022 Unveiled presentation is to take place at 11 am EST on Nov. 18th and was not offered as a virtual simulcast with the physical event.

For full disclosure, HD Guru opted not to attend the physical CES Unveiled Event (held indoors at NYC’s Rainbow Room) due to on-going reports of continuing infections and indications that even vaccinated individuals remain at-risk to catching and spreading the Delta variant of the virus. Fortunately, reported data also shows vaccinated individuals usually have substantially less severe cases and most don’t require hospitalizations, except in cases with certain underlying conditions. According to CTA press releases on CES and thanks to information relayed to us from our friends present at the CES 2022 Unveiled New York event Wednesday, the following disclosures were made:

  • The Las Vegas Convention Center will not host any exhibitor booths in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall this year in favor of expanded space in West Hall.
  • The CTA has registered 1600 exhibitors, and growing, and has booked 1,000 registered press.
  • CTA will not support virtual exhibitor booths this year.
  • CTA will only accommodate physically presenting exhibitors on the event’s digital CES platform.
  • The CTA announced the official lineup for CES 2022 Media Days on Jan 3 and 4, 2022 leading up to the show days. These events will be open exclusively to media and will take place in the Mandalay Bay Casino/Hotel.

“For those who cannot travel to Las Vegas, select content will be streamed to the CES digital platform,” CTA said.

Following a full day of exhibitor press conferences on Jan. 4, Samsung will deliver the CES pre-show keynote address at 6:30 PM in the Venetian’s Palazzo Ballroom. The CES featured speakers page will be updated as additional speakers are announced.

Note that Samsung is exhibiting with a booth at the show, and did not hold a media day press conference when its executive keynoted at CES 2020. In addition, TCL has a booth this year but has not been listed as holding a press conference at this time.

“Media will gain exclusive insight on the latest tech research and trends to watch during CES 2022 at CTA’s anticipated annual presentation – Tech Trends to Watch. This media-only event will take place at 4pm, Jan. 3. Attendees will get early access to Unveiled Las Vegas, the official media event of CES. Beginning at 5pm, media can meet with exhibitors and get a sneak peek at the groundbreaking innovations expected at CES 2022,” CTA said.

The CTA continued: “Global audiences will have access to major brands and startups, as well as the world’s most-influential leaders and industry advocates. For over 50 years, CES has been the global stage for innovation, and CES 2022 will provide an opportunity for companies from around the world, both large and small, to launch products, build brands and form partnerships. Registration is now open for industry and media attendees.”
