Taiwan based LCD maker CHIMEI will enter the U.S. market in 2008 with a full line of LCD flat panel HDTVs. It will offer a range of screen sizes up to 52â€Â. In any exclusive interview, Paul Butler, General Manager of CHIMEI’s European operation, revealed the company’s U.S. market plans to the HD Guruâ„¢.
Butler stated that CHIMEI (pronounced chee-may), will manufacturer the large screen panels using its CMO Optronics LCD factories in Taiwan. (Vizio, Westinghouse and other “new†brands buy all their LCD panels from other companies). In addition to producing the LCD panels, CHIMEI will build its own televisions.
The top of the line LCD HDTV (European model pictured above) will use a panel produced in the CMO 7.5 generation facility and will feature 1920 x 1080p resolution, 120 Hz refresh and high contrast ratio. Price of the 52†will be below $2000 U.S. and sold under the CHIMEI brand name.
Butler explained CHIMEI would establish a national parts and service network within the U.S. to further differentiate it from “no name†TV brands. CHIMEI currently sells LCD HDTVs in Europe under the Mirai brand, which come with a three-year parts and labor warranty.
CHIMEI group is a Taiwan based company with worldwide sales of over 10 billion dollars.
