The company said the EOS R5 will be positioned as a high-performance camera for “every photographer — not just professionals.” It will also feature “revolutionary subject detection and tracking performance features.”

The announcement confirmed the EOS R5 will also include the following:

• A 12fps mechanical shutter and the electronic shutter offering 20 fps.

• A Canon-developed, in-camera image stabilization system that works in combination with the lens stabilization system.

• Support for automatic transfer of image files from the device to the “image.canon” cloud platform.

• Dual card slots

Other features will include: advanced animal AF that recognizes “dogs, cats and birds, relying not only on the eyes of the animal but also the face and body for situations when the eyes are not visible.”

The EOS R5 will also be compatibile with Canon’s suite of EF2 and RF lenses.
