All three models are said to include “first-class optics,” and a 20x 26.8mm-576mm optical zoom lens designed to let videopgraphers capture a variety of scenes high quality. Canon combines in each model a powerful HD CMOS sensor and the company’s DIGIC DV4 image processing platform, capable of rendering high quality low-light shots in 1080/60p at 35 Mbps.

Canon said a wide dynamic range (DR) mode supports the smooth compression of high luminance areas producing 600 percent DR making it possible to shoot with smooth color gradation and suppressed overexposure.
This is applicable to any shooting environment where the difference between light and dark areas can result in overexposure, the company said.
A Slow/Fast Segment function offers shooting speed selections ranging from 0.4x to a 1,200x, while a Hi-UD lens supports the reduction of chromatic aberration and drives vivid imaging.
The new camcorders will capture both AVCHD and MP4 compresssion formats, at multiple bit rates, simultaneously, to Dual SD card slots.
All three models include an HDMI port, headphone jack, and optional GPS support. The XA15 and XA11 models add XLR professional audio terminals.
Additionally, the XA15 model includes an HD-SDI output.
