AT&T Reveals Pay-TV Subscriber Losses Slowed In Q2-2021
Due to release its Q2-2021 financial statement on July 22nd, media Goliath AT&T issued a preliminary SEC filing Friday showing the video subscriber count for the combined DirecTV, AT&T TV and AT&T U-verse divisions totaled 15.412 million, marking a 2.3 million subscriber loss year-on-year from 17.712 million.
On a positive note, the drop was the lowest quarterly subscriber decline for the company since the fourth quarter of 2018.
The net decline of pay-TV subscribers for Q2-2021 was 473,000, marking a 47% improvement from 887,000 total video subscribers dropped during the same period a year ago.
The churn rate for the quarter was 1.87%, reflecting an improvement from the 2.42% churn a year ago.
In February, AT&T announced a deal with TPG Capital giving the latter a 30% stake in a newly spun-off entity comprising DirecTV and AT&T’s other U.S. pay TV businesses.
