Mohu’s Leaf Antenna Will Be A Recommended Tool On New App
Television antenna manufacturer Mohu launched Tuesday a new app for prospective cord cutters called Untangle.TV.
Untangle.TV is a free app built to simplify the cord cutting transition by determining the best tools and services needed to get the kind of programming viewers want at the lowest possible cost.
Billed as the first online application showing users how to cut the cord, the tool is designed to analyze cord cutters’ viewing behaviors to recommend a custom mix of over-the-air (OTA) and over-the-top (OTT) devices and services needed to enable low-cost alternatives to expensive subscription cable, satellite and telco TV services.
Mohu said its own consumer survey conducted in 2016 indicated that some 54 percent of U.S. consumers have admitted considering dropping traditional multi-channel pay TV service.

“Cord cutting should be easy, and our mission has always focused on giving consumers choice, simplicity and the best entertainment experience possible,” “We know consumers have dozens of products and services to choose from, which can be overwhelming to evaluate all options available,” said Mark Buff, founder and CEO of Mohu. “..We created Untangle.TV to be the ultimate cord cutting shopping wizard. The tool objectively guides and supports consumers throughout their cord cutting journey.”
In unveiling the service, Mohu said Untangle.TV accesses a selection of OTA and OTT services, and creates personalized package recommendations by understanding a handful of questions that are specific to users and their behaviors:

Key consideration factors taken into account include:
- How tech savvy is the user? This helps identify a consumer’s comfort level, to assess to what degree the installation needs to be simplified and day-to-day operational use of the devices.
- What does a consumer watch most often? This allows helps to ascertain a viewer’s specific viewing preferences, so that someone who likes ESPN, or example, and shows like Game of Thrones, might be directed to a cost-effective live streaming service like Sling TV Orange and HBO NOW.
- How much is the user paying now for pay-TV? Because cost is a driving factor to cord cutting, Untangle.TV is set up to help budget-conscious consumers determine the most cost-effective combination of services and devices to meet a viewer’s needs. The app will calculate a the estimated monthly savings from a current pay-TV bill and provide a cost analysis of the products and services recommended to help control a user’s viewing budget. This can be used to help viewers cherry pick particularly shows or channels to trim the total bill at the end of the month.
After the budget has been determined, Untangle.TV provides a list of suggested products needed to get the right combination of features and programming. Included in the recommendations is the right Mohu OTA antenna needed to receive free broadcast TV stations in the viewing area along with major OTT devices, services and applications.
