Tomorrow’s Thursday Night Football (TNF) game between the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Philadelphia Eagles will be the first live game presentation in 1080p Full HD with high dynamic range (HDR) specular highlights streamed on Amazon Prime.
The game will kick-off at 7pm EDT as the first 16 games planned to be presented by the video service of the e-commerce giant. That schedule will include the first ever NFL Black Friday Game (featuring: the Miami Dolphins vs the New York Jets) on November 24th.
Amazon said the telecast will be offered in “native HDR” for the first time.
“Prime Video’s ability to capture and distribute native HDR pictures is made possible by its arsenal of net-generation production equipment, unparalleled livestreaming technology and a direct-to-consumer delivery that is not constrained by legacy systems present in traditional broadcasting,” according to the company announcement.
In addition to native HDR, Amazon said it will debut a “Key Plays” feature that uses “artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to provide fans with an ability to view in-game highlights and key moments on demand while watching TNF on Prime Video. A bank of pivotal moments builds as the game progresses and offers viewers immediate access to a full rundown of the action.”
A Rapid Recap feature will assist those who join the game in progress and want to catch up on the action they missed before entering the livestream. It will be accessible after selecting “Watch,” and employs AI to compile up to 13 highlights. The full recap will be presented in under 2 minutes and will let viewers skip or re-watch big plays within the queue and jump to live action at any time.
An X-Ray features will additionally provide layers of information so that viewers can track advanced Next Gen Stats powered by AWS, watch on-demand replays enhanced with player performance metrics, get team and player info, shop official NFL merchandise and predict the game outcome with Fan Polls.
