On to the list!
This is Samsung’s top-of-the-line flat 4K TV (shown above). It comes in 50-, 55-, 60-, 65-, 75-, and even 85-inch sizes. All are 120 Hz (like nearly all 4K TVs), and are edge-lit with some local dimming. There are 4 HDMI 2.0 connections.
Want something a bit more curvy? The HU9000 is the curved version of the 8550 (or the 8550 is the flat version of the 9000…). It comes in 55-, 65-, and 79-inch flavors. Check out our review of the 65HU9000.
One of the best-reviewed TVs of the year (shown above). In our review of the XBR-65X900B we said, “As a product that delivers an audio and visual experience with 4K, HD, and streaming sources, I cannot think of another LCD television that has impressed my ears and eyes more than the Sony XBR-X900B series.”
Panasonic isn’t slouching when it comes to LCD anymore. The AX800 (and upcoming AX900) are excellent. We really liked the 65AX800 when we saw it.
You can get them through Panasonic Direct. The TC-58AX800 is $2000, while the 65-inch is $2,800.
If you want to go all out, Sony’s X950B features full-array local dimming, with High-Dynamic Range processing. Go big or go home, the only sizes available are 65-inches (at $7,000) and 85-inches, for a mere $25,000.
LG 4K OLED!
Don’t forget a 4K source!
To get the most out of your new 4K TV, you need a 4K source. Netflix streams a little content in 4K, but you really should get a 4K media streamer. There is… one option. That’s it. It’s the Sony FMP-X10, for $700. Check out our review.
