As more and more televisions, media adapters and Ultra HD Blu-ray players continue to arrive with support for 4K Ultra HD and added support for the Dolby Vision premium flavor of high dynamic range (HDR), we are providing an updated list of content and platforms where it can be found in the United States today.

The first Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs with Dolby Vision arrived in June, following the first supporting Dolby Vision firmware update for Oppo Ultra HD Blu-ray players.

According to Dolby, more than 120 movie titles are available or have been announced in Dolby Vision across major streaming providers and UHD Blu-ray disc. Currently, 11 Dolby Vision titles are available on Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, and climbing.

Additionally, more than 150 hours of episodic content is available in Dolby Vision across major over-the-top (OTT) services globally, including Netflix which recently announced its first titles available in Dolby Atmos.

Dolby reminds that nearly all major Hollywood studios, including Disney, are delivering Dolby Vision content to consumers via UHD Blu-ray disc and/or OTT streaming.

In the case of Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs, titles carrying Dolby Vision are mandated to also provide the necessary metadata to support the open and generic HDR10 format.

HDR10 is supported in all 4K Ultra HD televisions with HDR, however, it is based on a static metadata system which requires color grading to be performed at one level throughout a title, where Dolby Vision allows for color grading on a scene-by-scene basis. The result is a somewhat more realistic looking picture, with natural lighting and color highlights.

Among the 2017 Ultra HD televisions supporting Dolby Vision HDR are select LG OLED and Super UHD TVs, select Sony Bravia 4K OLED and LED-LCD UHD TVs, select Philips/Funai 4K Ultra HD LED-LCD TVs, select TCL 4K Roku TVs, select Hisense 4K Ultra HDTVs, Vizio 4K UHD LED-LCD TVs, and others.

According to the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) Ultra HD Blu-ray movies (regardless of HDR-support-type) have seen the number of titles more than double since Sept 2016, with more than 150 available year to date. More than 250 are planned to be available by December 2017.

2017 Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc sales are expected to increase by eight-fold from 2016, the BDA said.

Samsung 4K Ultra HDTVs support HDR10 and will support future HDR10+ content, which provides some of the same color grading and tone mapping benefits of Dolby Vision in an open format.
