In a bid to make its Tizen-based televisions further appeal to the rapidly growing cord-cutting community, Samsung announced Thursday that it has added CBSN – CBS News’ free 24/7 streaming news service – to its Samsung TV Plus app service.
Samsung TV Plus is an app that aggregates a variety of free ad-supported streaming TV services and comes pre-installed on the company’s 2016-2019 Tizen-based smart TVs. Users can select Samsung TV Plus to find quick access to specialized content, general entertainment and information.
Samsung TV Plus offerings are “tailored to the growing number of consumers who are stepping away from traditional cable packages,” the company stated.

CBSN will join a library of more than 70 TV channlels on the Samsung TV Plus app. Selected content includes channels spanning news, sports, kids, lifestyle, and gaming, such as ET Live, Cheddar, WeatherNation, fubo Sports Network, Outside TV+, Moonbug, Tastemade, QVC, PeopleTV, This Old House, FailArmy, The Pet Collective, IGN, and more.

“Samsung is excited to partner with industry leaders like CBS to bring CBSN and other notable programming to Samsung TV Plus,” said Salek Brodsky, Samsung Business Development and Strategic Partnerships VP. “As viewership trends continue to shift, we feel it is important to offer consumers a live and linear TV experience that is completely free and directly integrated into our Samsung Smart TV platform.”
To underscore the opportunity for its aggregated channel offering, Samsung cited Convergence Research Group data showing 34% of U.S. households will not have a traditional cable subscription by the end of 2019.
CBSN will give Samsung TV owners “an alternative way to access and watch the same news content on the largest screen in the home.”
