Now that we have published specifications detailing the parameters for high dynamic range (HDR) in consumer television displays, Scarsdale, N.Y.-based retailer Value Electronics is gearing up to present its 13th Annual TV Shootout to determine which approach presents the best picture this year.
Robert Zohn, Value Electronics proprietor, said he has signed on for the second year in a row to present his annual TV Shootout at the CE Week NY show, June 22-23, 2016. This year, Joel Silver (pictured at top), pointman for and a founder of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), will be the shootout moderator, and will bring the audience up to speed on what is going on in today’s latest and greatest products.
The event will again take place on the lower level of the Metropolitan Pavilion and Altman Building, 125 W 18th Street, New York, N.Y.

Once again, the TV Shootout is expected to present the top available 4K Ultra HD and HDR-ready LED LCD and OLED models in the lines of key manufacturers including: Samsung, LG, Sony, and others.
Last year’s winner was LG’s curved 4K OLED TV model 65EG9600. The set beat out three contending flagship 4K Ultra HD TVs including the 78-inch Samsung UN78JS9500, the 75-inch Sony XBR-75X940C and the Panasonic TC-65X850U. The LG set won in two different sets of voting – one among general attendees and the other from a panel of expert calibrators.

Voting included seven different quality attributes including: black level, perceived contrast, color accuracy, and motion resolution, among others. Lacking a standard, last year’s sets were not tested for their ability to handle high dynamic range.
