I bought a new Mitsubishi 52" DLP HDTV in 2005.
The TV failed after 22 months. The est. to fix & inst.a new board was over @1500.00. Had to throw away. Not good for Mitsubishi lovers. I will never buy another one again. Got a new Sony 46"
HD 1080p. Picture great and a 5 yr.warranty this time. Best picture quality ever seen via Cox cable

I have the Samsung HL-S6188W. I want to buy a 3G HD DVD player and I have a question regarding 1080p 24 frames per second.

Specifically, the Toshiba HDA30 review on CNET says it is worth the proce only if you TV can handle 1080p/24fps. Can it?

Accepting 24p input is one thing.
However, key is whether it will *display* at 24 fps.
Sony has a few units that can do this, and calls is "24p true cinema".
If you want flicker-free 1:1 display of 1080p content from a blu-ray player, you need 24p display.
When buying, I would go for the "true cinema" label.
The xbr5 has this, I believe.

Hello,
I just bought a Sony Bravia 40" HDTV( KDL-40S2010)and got a comcast HD cable.Maybe I'm just wrong but the picture quality is not that great. When I push the tv dispaly button, it shows the "480i" underneath the channel number. Is there a way to get a better picture quality? If yes, how do I do that? The tv manual doesn't seem to show how. This is my first time getting a HDTV and HD cable. Please help me...
Thank You

Note: I've also read that even though some of the newer displays will accept 1080p/24 signals via HDMI, the signal is then reprocessed to either 60 or 120hz, as the 24fps technology has not progressed yet for the panel to actually provide "pure" (& ONLY) 24fps playback (for the film signals).

And TV display panel technology currently is manufactured for a 60hz ratio of the image.

Pioneer plasmas can process a 24fps signal, but triple the image scanning rate to 72hz [which is a multiple of 24 x 3].

To date, I'm not aware of any other display that provides a pure 24fps 5:5 sequence (for 120hz). I believe most (if possible) take the 3:2 sequence (for 30hz) and then use a multiple of 4 (for 120 hz playback, 30 x 4).

Maybe Gary can explain it better :-) (I'm relying on my memory from Home Theater Magazine articles etc, on online forums, for the above info).

Correct, none of the current 120Hz displays do true full frame 120Hz processing for 5:5 pulldown, all use frame interpolation (Sony, Samsung other ) or black insertion method.
