Two weeks ago we broke our exclusive story about Samsung’s plan to use a one price program called Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP) for all its higher end models, putting an end to price shopping. According to the trade publication Dealerscope and an industry source Sony will soon begin its own UPP program, making it impossible to get a discount from any authorized Sony dealer including etailers. Read on to learn how long you have before the discounts disappear.

Updated 2/26/2012-New Price Drop
With the 2012s about to hit, remaining inventories of the best 2011 HDTV models are almost depleted. Time is running out for a really good buy. We scoured all the retailers for the best closeout deal and this ones a killer. Samsung, the leading seller of HDTVs in the US settled a class action lawsuit this month. The affected class covers over 7 million owners of Samsung HDTVs (including plasma, LCD and DLPs) made from 2006 through 2008. Samsung agreed to provide free inspections, free repairs (if needed) and reimburse owners of these out of warranty TVs if their sets previously failed and were repaired at the owner’s expense due to defective capacitors within the affected TVs power supplies. This capacitor defect causes an affected TV to be unable to power on and produce a picture . (CBS4 Miami, Fl. reported the number of affected set owners through court documents it obtained).

Samsung just released its latest pricing to dealers and we’ve added more plasma models. We’ve also updated Samsung’s 2012 LED prices here.
Good news for potential buyers, the prices have again adjusted downward with new 60-Inch screen size models starting at under $2000.
New for 2012 plasma includes 60-inch (replacing 59-inch), voice control, gesture remote, face recognition (8000) and dual core processor (8000 and 7000)

HDTV dealers use the President’s Day holiday week to clear out their remaining inventory of top 2011 models with savings of up to 48% off retail. The 2012s are beginning to hit dealers’ shelves and will continue to roll in as we move into March.

Note the new 2012 models are considerably more expensive than the 2011 close-outs, although a number of the upcoming models have few performance improvements with many of the TV makers opting instead for a few more features on their respective lines Also note Samsung’s top 2012 series will not be discounted below the minimum advertised prices we listed due to its upcoming Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP) making the cost gap even larger.

The retail prices for the 2012 Panasonic LED and LCD HDTVs have been leaked to us by industry sources.
