Welcome to the Brooklyn Jewish Retailers. Their practices haven't changed since I was a teenager in the nineties looking to buy my first computer. Same bait and switch. Only in those days you can avoid the hassle by ignoring ads that mention they closed on Saturday, though now they hire Goyum to work on. That being said, I highly recommend J&R and BHPhoto in NYC.

[...] Our recent article “On Line HDTV Stores Get Nailed For Consumer Fraud” (Link) reports that a number of Brooklyn based etailers were cited for fraud and fined by the NYS Attorney General. We checked one of the merchants still in business called “Foto Connection” that sells service contracts written by Brooklyn based Consumer Priority Service (dba CPS). We contacted CPS’s customer service department and asked for a copy of its contract. The customer service rep said it’s not available online and that a written request by US mail was required to obtain a copy—not exactly a forthcoming policy for a legitimate company, which we then suspected CPS of not being.
captain obvious,

Did you even read the article before commenting? HD Guru was the first to break this to the HD community. What you say has been going on for 7-8 yrs or more is just now being adjudicated by the state of New York and will benefit all consumer electronics internet customers who purchase through the many sites in New York.

This is why I only by from retailers that I trust. You know the big names. Its not worth it to save 50 bucks from some fly by night company on a big purchase like a $2000 tv.

Thanks for an excellent article. I've watched these sites undercut other internet retailers for years on cameras and electronics. I wondered how they attained those inflated ratings on price search websites and now it's clear.

After discovering independent rating sites, i.e., resellerratings.com which use realworld customer experiences I've steered clear of these scammers. Unfortunately many customers learned the hard way. I'm glad New York is now taking action...it's long overdue.
