Dear HUGuru,

I enjoy your reviews. Do you know which ODM's manufacture for VIZIO and/or Westinghouse?

Hello HDGuru,
I am trying to buy a 50-52 inch HD tv but i am very confused with the LCD and Plasma tech. and cant decide which one to buy. I would appreciate your help if you could tell me which is the best tv in market right now (LCD or Plasma). I am considering Samsung FP-T5084 and Sony bravia XBR which one would be better or is there anything better and cheaper than that.
Thank you.

dear hdguru, can you tell me why i see so many refurbished 2006 and 2007 flat panels
of all kinds for sell on so many sites? after all these things are advertised on
tv to last for 20 yrs or so. im afraid to buy one for fear it will break. i have had
in the past crts to last for 12 to 15 yrs and never be touched.right now i am afraid
the current technology has not been perfected. anyone else feel this way?
your comments would be appreciated. hope all had a safe and wonderful labor day!!!!

Good question. The reason is that many of the big retailers have deals with set makers to take back returns. Warehouse club stores have no facilities to test the returned HDTVs, so they simply send them back to the vendor. The set maker must check it out, repair if necessary and sell to another dealer as a refurbished TV. I have heard return rates of flat panels of over 10% some retailers.

Why so many are returned. It could be a variety of reasons from does not fit in space, buyer did not know he needs an HDTV signal, picture quality for standard def, or it was for a party or event with the intention of returning the set.
