Thought your readers would like to know that the Sharp T Series LCD’s are first LCD to receive THX certification.

Link to THX website:
http://www.thx.com/

Further, at “the top of the rock” in New York,Sharp just displayed to the press their new line of LCD’s available in October. 25% slimmer(3 1/4 inches) 20% lighter.New slim bezel, allows 42 inch to occupy same space as typical 40 inch. The top of the line in this series has all the top specs reported by the Guru elsewhere on this website.

One further bit of information, last Thursday,Sharp demoed working prototypes of their next generation LCD’s. One hundred thousand to one contrast ratio,(that’s not a misprint) Only 3/4 inches thick, just over 1 inch at thickest point. Slated for 2010 introduction.

(My commentary: They are worried about up coming OLED technology and want to stay at the forefront with LCD,in view of the fact that Sony announced introduction of a OLED television to the market at end of 2007,followed by intros of OLED sets announced by others. That One hundred thousand to one contrast ratio still falls far short of claimed one million to one contrast ratio for OLED by Sony)

Some very nice pics of this prototype panel at Engadget and Gizmodo. Also saw a video of it in action on a Japanese website.

According to a Sharp spoke person at CBIT in Hanover, the 108 inch Lcd will also display 2160p (4096 x 2160 pixels).

The set will go into production at an unspecified date and price. "It will be highly customizable" for our customers.
