As I understand it, Panasonic bought that technology and hired away nearly all of Pioneer’s best engineers. Any word on when that will make it into a Panasonic plasma? It might be on the market now had Pioneer survived.

In 2007, they said it’d come out in 2008 which makes it sound like the Pioneer 111 and/or 151. Last year they showed a 9mm-thick panel and the Extreme Contrast Concept demo tv. EC technology was supposed to hit streets ‘in a few years.’

Pioneer's next generation plasma -- had it ever reached market -- was to have been the one with near absolute black that they showed off at CES two years ago. I'm sure you saw that demo, where you couldn't even distinguish black screen from bezel.

As I understand it, Panasonic bought that technology and hired away nearly all of Pioneer's best engineers. Any word on when that will make it into a Panasonic plasma? It might be on the market now had Pioneer survived. Is it a year away or are the technologies from the two companies incompatible?
