For comparison to the BB prices listed here, I purchased a Panasonic TC-P50X1 from Sears last week. The advertised price was $699 and you could get a further 5% off if you paid for it with a Sears charge card. I did that which basically offset the WI sales tax. Very happy with the purchase. Still in the market for a 65" for the home theater. I missed out on a Sears offer that had the TC-P65S1 for $2299 with an additional 5% which made it $2185. I'll have to wait until after Christmas to see what happens with prices.

HD Guru,

I am looking into buying a 50 inch plasma. I have been looking at the Panasonic TC-P50X1 model which is on sale this week. Since it is only 720, is it worth the extra couple of hundred for a 1080 or is this deal too good to pass up? Also, would a Samsung with similar specs be better than the Panasonic? Thanks.

Hello HDGuru -

We purchased the Samsung LN40B40 this week at Best Buy (was on sale) for $999.99 The difference see between this, and one of the ones on sale right now - besides the $300, is 120Hz vs. 60Hz. Both sets are 1080p. In your opinion, is the 120Hz worth the $300 difference? Also- it appears that they have another 1080p 40" set LN40B550 with a BlueRay player (which we need) for $749.00

Worth it to pack things back up, and head to Best Buy? So far, we just love the LN40B640... even at $1000

Best Buy is a terrible retailer. I still remember their fake in store website. Someone would come in their store looking for that sale item only to find it priced higher than in the add. They would argue and a sales rep would show them this fake in store website that listed the item at the incorrect high price. You have to wonder about a store that would do that. They got caught. It was really bad press for them. In the end I'll only buy small parts or items.

I would not order from bestbuy.com. I had ordered a Panasonic 58" TV on the monday after Thanksgiving. It was to be delivered the following Saturday. I checked after receiving the confirmation email and the delivery date was set.

On the delivery day I checked again to see if I could get an estimated delivery window for the day and found out that my delivery was canceled. They had not given me any notice of this. It seems they ran out of stock of 50" and over Panasonic plasmas in Texas though they had my version (and other large sizes) in many other states. In fact they were still selling the same model online though at a higher price.

I spent two hours on the phone with various BestBuy reps and they refused to ship me one from a state that had them in stock. They also said that since the newer year models would be coming out that TX stores would not order any more of my model nor would they honor the price I was to pay for the new year model they were going to get soon.

Best Buy did offer to give me a discount on a TV smaller than 50" but that did not meet my needs. They would not do any more than that though.

What was really disappointing was that I had waited specifically for that Monday to order my TV knowing that there would be many CyberMonday deals to be had. I could have ordered the same TV at a great price from many other vendors but I made the mistake of going with BestBuy.

If you do take Best Buy up on one of their sales make sure you purchase the unit at the store so you can be sure they have them in stock.

Mr Guru,

I just yesterday purchased a 40" Toshiba 40RV525R for $645.

If you were me would you return it and snag that Samsung LN40B530 40″
for 50 bucks more at best buy?

Is the Samsung a way better TV for the money?

<strong>The Toshiba you purchased is a 60 Hz LCD, the Samsung is 120 Hz. You would have to be comparing the Samsung against the 120 Hz Toshiba for an even evaluation.

Hi, HDGURU

Panasonic 54" V10 $1800 ! (Best Buy still is asking $2400 for this model)
Panasonic 54" G10 with free Blu=Ray player $1599

Prices quoted by two Video Only stores in San Francisco Bay area
1. SF, on Van Ness: 415-563-5200
2. Dublin : 925- 829- 2900

The G10 model is advertised in this weekend's San Francisco Chronicle. You have to ask about the V10 price. I would think all Video only stores would be offering both models for these prices.

HDGURU : Before posting this note, please call one of the stores I listed and double check. The V10 price appears to be especially good.
